A War To End Wars is a reflection in music and the spoken word, presented by Motherwell Diocesan Choir to mark the centenary of the ending of World War I.  The programme will include the Requiem by Gabriel Faure, together with a selection of 20th century music and poetry.  Admission is free and all are invited to participate in this event in thanksgiving for those who gave their lives for our freedom.

Sunday 7th October is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary and to celebrate, there will be a Torchlight Procession at 7.00pm, with the Litany of Loreto, around the Grotto.

This will mark the end of the 2018 Pilgrimage Season. Please join us.

A new season begins.... We are seeking Tenors, Altos and Basses. Please come along and join us for our first rehearsal. 
We normally meet in the Cathedral Primary School on Wednesday evenings but this year our first rehearsal will take place in Motherwell Cathedral on Wednesday August 15. Since that is the feast of The Assumption we will sing at the 7.30pm Mass and stay on there for our choir rehearsal. 
The following Wednesday (22nd) we will meet in the Cathedral Primary School.

Join us at a fundraiser evening of choral classics for the two charities of Mary's Meals and St Andrew's Hospice. There are no tickets for for sale, as entry is free However we would ask for a suggested donation of £5 per person to raise funds for these two amazing charities. There will be organ and orchestral accompaniment to the choir's singing. It promises to be a wonderful evening.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ORDINATION OF REV PAUL DENNEY
Yesterday was a Golden day in the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes East Kilbride as Paul Hugh Denney was ordained to the Priesthood. The 5th and final ordination for the Diocese of Motherwell this year!

This evening the choir was privileged to make its annual visit to St Alphonsus Church in Glasgow to help provide the music for an ecumenical service organised by FASS. This is a Glasgow-based organisation which supports families who have suffered the death of a family member due to drug-abuse during the course of the year. Choir members have participated in this service for the past twenty four years and always find it an extremely moving event. Almost 100 names were read out this evening, a group representing the total who have died. Each lit candle you see in front of the altar symbolises a friend or family member being remembered and prayed for this evening. This year's annual Vocations Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Toal on Monday 28th August at 7.30pm in the Cathedral. Parishioners from across the Diocese are encouraged to come along to pray for vocations to the Priesthood, Diaconate and Religious Life.

The Mass will also provide an opportunity to pray for our seminarians and our recently ordained priests and those preparing for ordination.

Our Diocese has been greatly blessed this year with a healthy number of ordinations to the Priesthood and Professions of Religious Vows, so please join us to give thanks to God and to pray that more men and women will answer God's call to the Priesthood & Religious Life for service in our Diocese.

Our rehearsals will begin on Wednesday 16 August at 7:30pm: we will be in the cathedral on the first week, as the school lets don't start until 23 August. There will be no 7:00 men's rehearsal on the first week.

Finally, as you will have noticed, our numbers are currently very healthy, although the male/female balance is not ideal. Consequently, if you are aware of any gentleman who has experience of singing and who would like to join us, would you please ask him to come along to the cathedral on Wednesday at 7:30.

 Annual Memorial Service organised by FASS Glasgow (Family Addiction Support Service) led by Father Ian Bathgate of St Alphonsus' Church and Rev Peter Davidge of Gallowgate Parish Church.

This service is for anyone who has lost a loved one as a result of addiction. It is a time for reflection and is an opportunity to remember those who have died as a result of the use of drugs or alcohol.

MASS OF ST. PATRICK BY PHILIP GREEN

By popular request and with the support and encouragement of Fr. Eamonn Sweeney, the Diocesan Choir will perform the ‘Mass of St. Patrick’ again in St. Patrick’s, Coatbridge on Sunday 11th September at 7.30pm.  The Choir performed this Mass a few years ago to great acclaim. More details nearer the time. Entry is free, so come along and hear some fine music.

The National Pilgrimage this year takes place this Sunday, 4th September, during the Jubilee Year of Mercy and offers an opportunity for us to mark this special year with a national gathering.

The Mass will be celebrated within the Grotto at 3pm with Archbishop Tartaglia, as principal celebrant and Archbishop Cushley as the Homilist.

An additional feature of this pilgrimage will be the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. A number of Bishops and priests will be available to hear confessions in parish church from 12noon until shortly before Mass begins at 3pm.

The parish of St. Francis Xavier also has a Door of Mercy, so people can fulfill all the conditions to receive the Plenary Indulgence for the Jubilee Year

3:00pm. Please join us at Carfin Grotto. As with last year, there will be a ‘Corpus Christi Procession’ in the grounds of Carfin Grotto beginning at 3.00pm. This year, the Feast of the Body and Blood of the Lord coincides with the worldwide Jubilee Year of Mercy event for deacons. For that reason, the permanent deacons of the diocese will play a prominent part in the procession and at its conclusion will renew their diaconal promises (in much the same way as priests do at the annual Chrism Mass).  Corpus Christe  is a Latin Rite liturgical solemnity celebrating the tradition and belief in the body and blood of Jesus Christ and his Real Presence in the Eucharist. It emphasizes the joy of the institution of the Eucharist.  The feast is liturgically celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday or, "where the Solemnity of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is not a holy day of obligation, it is assigned to the Sunday after the Most Holy Trinity as its proper day"At the end of Holy Mass, there is often a procession of the Blessed Sacrament, generally displayed in an ostensorium.
